This study explores the architectural transformations of apartment buildings in Karşıyaka, Izmir, using an interpretative approach to examine the facades of these buildings. They represent the modernist residential architecture of the city from 1950 to 1980. This paper also seeks to mitigate the adverse impacts of interventions on different scales by employing tangible and intangible value analysis for facades. By documenting Izmir’s modern housing architecture, the aim is to comprehensively assess residential facades at urban, architectural, and interior scales. This study aims to document the city’s modern housing stock, contribute to existing literature, and understand facades as part of modern daily life practices. The research uses a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze building facades. It aims to uncover the values within residential facades and the lasting impact of modernism on urban identity.
