Student Perspectives on the Impact of GenAI
摘要
This chapter explores student perspectives on the impact of Generative AI (GenAI) in higher education. By examining narratives across various disciplines—healthcare, business, human resources, law, English literature, and computing—it seeks to understand the benefits and challenges GenAI presents to students, as well as its broader implications for higher education and future careers. Qualitative data from student surveys from various fields was gathered to showcase student perspectives through a narrative analysis. This approach captures diverse views on how GenAI might affect learning and research, which can offer insights into students’ experiences in an AI-influenced academic environment. The findings highlight that students are keenly aware of GenAI’s impact on their education, often more so than their educators or instructors. While some students are optimistic about GenAI’s potential, others express concern over the ethics of its use, its effects on traditional learning, and implications on their professions. This chapter highlights the necessity of including student voice in discussions about GenAI’s role in higher education. As primary stakeholders, their insights are vital in shaping educational policies and practices in response to GenAI’s growing presence. The findings also contribute to ongoing debates around the role of higher education in preparing students for the changing requirements of future careers in an increasingly AI-driven world.
