Dynamic System Control Using Type-3 Fuzzy Logic System

Type-3 fuzzy logic is one of the emerging approaches used for the control of dynamic plants characterizing high-order uncertainty. Because of the three-dimensional membership function used by type-3 fuzzy logic systems (T3FLS), they can model these uncertainties. In this paper, the design of T3FLS is considered for the dynamic plant control. T3FLS is designed using three-dimensional Gaussian membership functions. The type-3 fuzzy rule base of the controller is constructed and its inference engine is designed. The inference engine is implemented using α slices and interval type-3 membership functions (MFs). The designed T3FLS is employed for dynamic plant control. A comparison of transient response characteristics of a T3FLS-based control system with the response characteristics of other systems indicates the efficiency of using T3FLS in control uncertain dynamic plant control.
