Lean Management - A Prerequisite for Digitization in the Automotive Industry
摘要
Automotive companies act in a very competitive market, with high standards and requirements. Thus, companies are continually seeking ways to optimize their production processes, enhance efficiency, reduce costs and improve product quality. Lean Management has proven to be one of the most effective methodologies for achieving these goals. Lean Management is based on the idea of managing a company in a way that reduces waste, considering that customers do not pay for additional activities performed by the company, but only for the final product, focusing on efficiency and the elimination of unnecessary measures that do not add value to the final product. This article explores the implementation of Lean Management principles in an automotive company, a case study that highlights steps and results of balancing production lines in the automotive sector, leading to an average productivity increase of 16% and scrap rates decrease of 20%. Significant cost savings were achieved through reduced setup times, lower inventory levels and improved efficiency, amounting to over €140,000 saved on five production lines from 2018 to 2020. The improvements achieved through Lean Management create a foundation for further advancements through digitalization and Industry 4.0 technologies.
