Post-streptococcal and Epidemic Glomerulonephritis
摘要
Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (PSGN) is an immunologically mediated glomerulopathy that occurs after pharyngeal or cutaneous streptococcal infections, which are more frequent in areas with limited resources and poor sanitation. GNPE is triggered by nephritogenic strains of group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus. Streptococcal infection leads to the formation of immune complexes that are deposited in the renal glomeruli, activating the complement system and causing inflammation and glomerular damage. Diagnosis is based on clinical and laboratory findings, including edema, hypertension, hematuria, and proteinuria, as well as serological tests that confirm previous streptococcal infection and low complement levels. Treatment is primarily supportive, focusing on the management of symptoms and complications, with the use of antihypertensives, diuretics, and antibiotics to eradicate the underlying infection.
