Ants are Hymenopterans and the so-called red or fire ants are the most common in North, Central America, and the Caribbean. The venom is composed of the alkaloid piperidine and allergenic proteins that can induce allergic phenomena and anaphylaxis. It also contains phospholipase A2, myotoxins, and neurotoxins, which produce hemolysis, hypercoagulability, and endothelial damage. Rhabdomyolysis secondary to multiple stings is a risk factor for developing acute kidney injury.

摘要

Ants are Hymenopterans and the so-called red or fire ants are the most common in North, Central America, and the Caribbean. The venom is composed of the alkaloid piperidine and allergenic proteins that can induce allergic phenomena and anaphylaxis. It also contains phospholipase A2, myotoxins, and neurotoxins, which produce hemolysis, hypercoagulability, and endothelial damage. Rhabdomyolysis secondary to multiple stings is a risk factor for developing acute kidney injury.
