The widespread introduction of mobile devices has enabled conditions for deploying mobile health activities. Although mobile health is a relatively new concept, it is transforming healthcare worldwide. It is a rapidly progressing area with tremendous rates. Fifteen publications were identified from Elsevier, PubMed and Google Scholar databases and specific to the purpose of this paper. The search was restricted to humans, publication date, and publication language (English). This narrative review paper aimed to analyze possible hazards and benefits of mobile phones as mobile health equipment to the environment and wellbeing respectively and suggest an intervention. Mobile phones were found to be the most mHealth equipment used in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The SSA is realizing the benefits of mHealth practices. The most concerning issue about mobile phones when they reach their end-of-life is their toxicity to the environment and wellbeing. Sub-Saharan Africa is found to manage electronic waste in a manner that is not friendly to the environment. Therefore, the study suggests that awareness of the detrimental effects of this waste be prioritized.
