In this chapter, the basic methods of music and music therapy that may be used with traumatised refugees are introduced. First, the common instruments and techniques of music therapy with traumatised clients such as drumming, performance, song writing, instrument playing, listening, and singing are discussed for those who are not familiar with music therapy (Alanne, 2010; Austin, 2009; Braak, 2007; Bruscia, 2014; McFerran et al., 2020; Orth et al., 2004). However, this will be described in a level of research that is also benefitting music therapists, researchers, and other practitioners working in the field of traumas and refugees as well as those who are beginning to work in these fields. The method of free improvisation in psychodynamic music therapy will be introduced first. It is a general approach to music therapy on how music and instruments may be used in producing sounds and music without former experience or education (Alvin, 1966/1975; Bruscia, 1987; Pavlicevic, 1997; Priestley, 1975; Smetana & Storz, 2020; Wigram, 2004, 2019).

摘要
