Music Therapy in the Treatment of Refugees
摘要
This chapter will describe how music therapy may benefit different refugee client groups, adults, children and adolescents, and families in their treatments. Documented published clinical work and research of music therapy with traumatised refugees will be discussed (Beck, 2019; Beck et al., 2021; McFerran et al., 2020; Orth, 2005; Orth & Verburgt, 1998; Orth et al., 2004). Also, my own clinical experiences from music psychotherapy as well as other work related to the topic such as supervision of families whose child was in music therapy will be reflected (Alanne, 2005, 2010, 2014a, 2019, 2023). In this chapter, the forms of music therapy, individual and group therapies, will be introduced and how their settings can be arranged: Examples and guidelines will be given on how to proceed with the beginning of an individual music therapy for an adult, child, or an adolescent client with a refugee and trauma background. This will be discussed concerning the clients in the private practice as well as in the public sectors, clinics, centres, and hospitals. Group music therapy and music in the groups with refugees and asylum seekers will also be described regarding what kind of experiences there are from the groups within the different clinical settings and clients (Ahonen & Mongillo Desideri, 2014; The BZFO reports 2000–2002; Zharinova-Sanderson, 2004a, 2004b).
