This chapter proposes the concept of transborder co-participation to unearth the articulations between migration and the making of multi-located households, extended families and the (re)production of normative gender identities. This argument is based on a long-term ethnography of Bangladeshi extended families living between Portugal and Bangladesh that, over the past 20 years, have maintained connections with the joint family houses in Bangladesh through a transnational gift economy. However, this co-participation is also marked by several tensions and ambiguities around the obligations of redistribution and reciprocation. Overall, this chapter addresses the mutually constituted relation between households, masculinities and transnational migrations.
