This chapter uses the results of two studies to develop an understanding of different types of design strategies and their connection to creativity in design. Two sets of experimental data are used to capture these strategies and then correlate them to readings of novice or expert practices, and the production of conventional or creative designs. Study I identifies three effective design strategies during the conceptual design stage: drawing-reflection, graphical-goal forwarding and textual-goal forwarding. Study II identifies two generative strategies in parametric design for developing creative solutions and products: problem-forwarding and solution-reflecting. The chapter explains these strategies and links them to past research about design cognition and creativity.

摘要
