Planning and Managing: Consultancy for Establishing a Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic
摘要
In this chapter, I will describe the consultancy process in establishing a new rehabilitation outpatient clinic, for patients coping with neurological impairments as a result of various diseases or injuries in a large hospital in Israel. The consultancy clients were the management of the Department of Neurological Rehabilitation. This internal consultancy consisted of two stages: pre-establishment—creating a plan for the establishment of the clinic; and post-establishment—managing the day-to-day operation of the clinic as well as offering psychotherapy to its patients. I will illustrate the application of the skillset of a medical psychologist working in a hospital setting as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing patient care, clinical consultation, and staff training. My involvement in developing the new outpatient unit was based on three years of residency in the Department of Neurological Rehabilitation and thus reflects my development as a medical psychologist.
