In this chapter, we discuss our experiences of starting up a health psychology consultancy. The decision to establish our consultancy practice was driven by both personal and professional reasons. As health psychologists, we valued the importance of maintaining and expanding our skillset. Post-qualification, we worked in a clinical setting and an academic setting, respectively. In both roles, however, there was limited opportunity to nurture our other health psychology skills such as research, client work, or consultancy. Establishing our own practice allowed us to meet this need while also aligning with our broader interests and values, particularly our commitment to health equity. We found the uncertainty regarding the first steps towards setting up our practice and the lack of clear guidance to be a significant challenge. Drawing on our learning and experiences, we share practical considerations, including the legal, financial, and administrative aspects of setting up a health psychology consultancy practice in the United Kingdom. We explore topics such as choosing the legal form of setting up a consultancy, determining a pricing strategy, and developing a business plan. Throughout the chapter, we have interwoven our personal reflections and motivations for setting up a consultancy practice.

摘要
