Occupational Health and Safety Conditions by Older Adults in Small and Medium-Sized Companies in the City of Quito

Protecting the health and safety of older adults workers in work environments is crucial. However, safety conditions in the workplace have been neglected, exposing employees to hazards. To address this issue in SMEs in Quito, Ecuador, an assessment was carried out using quantitative and qualitative methods based on the INSHT. Visits were made to 15 companies in different sectors, identifying 32 repetitive unsafe conditions that put the integrity of workers at risk. Mechanical hazards represent 36.24% of the conditions identified, with cuts, punctures or blows being the most critical. These incidents occur in 154 workplaces and are considered to be of intolerable risk level. Urgent action is needed to ensure safe working conditions and protect by older adults.
