Deepening Democracy: Nepal’s Journey to Federalism

Nepal represents an emerging nation that has undergone several experiments in its quest to institutionalize democratic governance. Over the past half-century, Nepal has experienced a series of profound regime changes. Nepal’s formal quest for democracy began in 1950 when the autocratic Rana rule was replaced by democratic agreements. Since then, Nepal’s journey toward democracy has been marked by numerous twists and turns, culminating in the establishment of a federalist constitution in 2015.
