In this chapter, the author describes his meeting with Edmond Fischer (Eddy) in the early 1980s, after they had remained close friends for over 35 years. A Nobel Prize-winning biochemist and gifted piano player, Eddy possessed a relentless curiosity and passion for discovery seemingly impervious to time. He led groundbreaking research with the same enthusiasm that sparked his illustrious career. Here, Eddy’s life is presented as an example of cognitive and emotional health in aging, documented with photos and videos of encounters. This chapter also highlights the epic visit of Eddy along with Jerome Isaac Friedman (Jerry) in 2016 to the Neuroscience Center of Excellence at LSU Health New Orleans. Both spent much of their life in pursuit of knowledge, music, and artistic expression. In addition to being a Nobel Laureate in physics, Jerry was an accomplished painter deeply immersed in the beauty of visual expression. The connection of both with two of the most acclaimed sopranos of our times, Jennifer Rowley and Sarah Jane McMahon, is documented, as is the presence of artist Taryn Moller Nicoll. Music, along with the beauty of visual artistic expression, positively influences cognitive, motor, and emotional processes important in successful aging.
