Exploration of the Role of Governance as the Impetus to Plan-Making Process: Case of Faridabad, Haryana

Governance is integral to the planning process, influencing how plans are developed, implemented, and evaluated. Effective governance fosters inclusivity, accountability, and transparency, ensuring that diverse stakeholder needs are met while addressing complex urban challenges. The literature emphasizes on the need for adaptive governance structures that can respond to changing societal needs and incorporate innovative practices. There is an evidence of a lot of restructuring process of administrative bodies and legislation for Haryana state that is impetus to plan-making process; however, there are certain complexities and challenges in the performance of urban local bodies as can be ascertained through the case of Faridabad. Therefore, this chapter ponders on the amendments in the roles of governance structures that may be crucial to necessitate the efficient and effective delivery of different sectors that are crucial for “Faridabad master plan 2041” .
