This chapter acknowledges that the arts in the UK is in a state of crisis, which is not only causing the cultural health of our country to decline, but also threatening the wellbeing of future generations. We need to find an urgent solution to repair the damage that has been done by successive UK governments. We propose that one solution is through rewilding the arts, borrowing the principles of ecological rewilding and applying something similar to our cultural landscape. To consider this we turn to the experiences of Isabella Tree who documents her rewilding of the Knepp Estate in Sussex in her book, Wilding. We look at various theories related to rewilding such as panarchy theory, adaptive governance, and scaling up, scaling out, and scaling deep, before offering our own suggestion of how effective rewilding could be transformative to the arts and our communities.
