Ethical Boundaries of AI-Assisted Monitoring Technology in Geriatric Care in the Home Setting
摘要
With the development of artificial intelligence technology and the intensification of global aging, AI-assisted monitoring technology in the home environment has become an important tool for elderly care, improving the safety and quality of life of the elderly. These technologies have obvious advantages in improving nursing efficiency and reducing the burden of family nursing, but they also bring risks and ethical problems. The use of nursing robots may affect the autonomy of the elderly. On the one hand, they can provide professional services, reduce stigma, protect privacy and respect, and enhance the autonomy of the elderly. On the other hand, robots may limit the autonomy of the elderly due to their lack of empathy and adaptability. This paper explores the ethical boundaries of care robotics in the home setting, highlighting the need to clarify the distribution of responsibilities among relevant decision makers, technology developers, and care providers and associated personnel in care practice to avoid blame shifting and uncertainty. Robots have no feelings and cannot completely replace the care of children, and their role should be positioned as an auxiliary to elderly care services, providing life care help from the technical level, freeing children, family members and caregivers to focus on the spiritual needs and emotional care of parents. In the age of digital intelligence, the elderly should not just passively accept the care of robots controlled by pre-programmed programs, but should actively use digital intelligence and actively participate in digital life. In this way, the elderly can not only improve their own convenience of life, but also better keep in touch with family, friends and society. These tools can help older adults manage their health more effectively, thereby improving their quality of life.
