This article is structured into five chapters. The first chapter presents a systematic and critical bibliographical record of the origin and development of the neoliberal turn in capitalism, with a particular emphasis on events in Chile. Although not exhaustive, this review of a corpus of studies and interdisciplinary analyses establishes its relevance. The second chapter introduces and describes the city of Santiago. The third chapter identifies and characterizes urban elements that define the mode of neoliberal spatial production in Greater Santiago. It examines the extent and locations of building in Santiago de Chile between 1990 and 2022, and analyses how real estate and building companies navigate the territory in search of business opportunities. The analysis is based on the annual records of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) on building permits, which measure the number of units and square metres of housing approved. The fourth chapter concludes that the production of neoliberal space in Greater Santiago manifests itself in an urban area strained by concentrations and variations in approved building units and surfaces. This reflects policies that commercialize housing solutions within a market that organizes and segregates the labour force across the territory. In the final chapter, some keys are proposed to think about an alternative project to the neoliberal model in the city.
