The chapter reconstructs aspects of the history of Puerto Madero from an analytical perspective that considers how the production of large urban projects involves material and symbolic, as well as territorial and relation processes. Urban, economic, political, symbolic and cultural dimensions of the production and legitimation of Puerto Madero are taken into account. Far from understanding the operation solely in terms of its final outcome, the chapter reconstructs a process with its ups and downs. It pays attention to how the Corporación Antiguo Puerto Madero Sociedad Anónima—Puerto Madero Corporation—(CAPMSA) manages capital and investment while attempting to mitigate the resistance and conflicts that limit the operation’s progress. The focus of this chapter is on the role of CAPMSA within the perimeter of Puerto Madero. However, in dialogue with policy mobility literature, the chapter reconstructs how Puerto Madero—and CAPMSA—transcends the 170 hectares that make it up and becomes, in various ways, a point of reference for other cities in the region that are trying to implement similar initiatives.
