Mapping the Underwater Noise of Recreational Boats
摘要
Maps of underwater noise have previously been produced for the contributions from commercial shipping. In sheltered coastal areas the activity of commercial shipping is much lower, but the activity from recreational boating is much higher, particularly during the summer months. Producing noise maps covering recreational boating is conceptually similar to that of commercial shipping, but there are certain key differences that need to be resolved. A method using satellite imagery to detect boats is proposed and combined with an in-development source model, forming a map of source contribution. This is propagated to a number of receiver points with a semi-empirical propagation loss model.
