Different Viewpoints on Honey Bee Breeding and Conservation
摘要
This chapter covers the practical viewpoints of those actually involved in sustainable bee breeding. These include beekeepers, bee scientists, and members of local, national and international authorities. The beekeepers are mostly commercial, but range from those using hybrid strains such as Buckfast to those conserving locally adapted populations of native bees. They keep bees in a wide range of situations from urban areas to remote landscapes and a range of different climatic conditions in many parts of the world. The viewpoints of the scientists come from working with different bee populations in widely differing situations on several continents. Finally, we hear the viewpoints of representatives of the European Commission division which supports apiculture, and of a regional authority, implementing measures to preserve the local native bee.
