The rapid increase in urban stray animal populations in recent years, driven by factors such as abandonment, free-ranging practices, and second-generation strays, has become a significant challenge (Tang et al., 2024). The lack of comprehensive legislation for the protection of stray animals leaves them vulnerable to abuse, poisoning, and difficulties in adapting to urban environments (Wang, 2024). To address this issue, we propose an innovative design for stray animal feeders, strategically placed in green vegetated areas within public neighborhoods to minimize human intrusion. These feeders aim to establish a balanced relationship between human care and the natural need for animals to distance themselves from humans (Li et al, 2023). Our prototype incorporates several advanced features, including an infrared sensing system, app networking capabilities, a stainless steel rainproof structure, and an integrated alarm system. These enhancements ensure a secure, hidden, and sustainable feeding environment for stray animals. Key innovations include: an automatic feeding reminder system that notifies designated community members when food supplies are low, accessible only via app; an alarm mechanism to deter tampering, leveraging laws against public property damage to protect the feeders; a networking feature that connects the feeder to community and charity organizations through a concealed camera, enabling timely intervention in crises. By fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and stray animals, this feeder design offers a practical and humane solution to a growing urban issue. It also provides an opportunity for community members to engage in limited but meaningful care for stray animals while ensuring their safety and autonomy.
