HERA: Heritage AR Education on Museums with AR
摘要
Museums tend to rely on labels, audio guides, and QR codes to convey information about curated works. In contrast, the formed interactive museum concept aims to make the museum experience more engaging, which is used for impactful education [1]. In Türkiye, only a few museums utilize emerging technologies to engage with younger audiences and children, limiting their ability to transmit Türkiye’s rich culture to new generations. Our research explores existing implementations of advanced technologies in museums and evaluates the state of cultural education in Türkiye using a selection of different artworks and advocates for increased engagement with younger audiences to contribute to the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage. To bridge this gap on education in museums, we propose a mobile application, HERA, that incorporates AR, designed to gamify the experience for children with storytelling elements and hands-on tasks. The HERA application scans artworks from the camera and provides information about the piece that was scanned. This approach aims to enhance children’s interaction with artworks and cultural items, making learning enjoyable and effective [2]. Hera offers an engaging AR storytelling experience centered around a detective’s narrative. The user steps into the shoes of a detective, who is trying to find a thief who has stolen the labels of artworks on display. Through this process, information to the user is given about the scanned art piece via their phone cameras where additional features such as taking quizzes about the artworks are also available. AR has the potential to assist learners in visualizing the historical origin or temporal context of a specific historical artifact or piece of art. By making the educational plots of museums more engageable and with the use of AR, cultural development and heritage transfer through generations are aimed to continue.
