Transforming Depression to Healing: Design Strategy for Community Mental Health
摘要
The global shift towards community-based mental health services is a key focus of ongoing mental health reforms and is prioritized as a means of enhancing overall well-being. In this paper, we explore new design strategies aimed at alleviating depressive symptoms within the context of this transition. From the perspective of HCI, we review the mechanisms behind depression, mainstream psychotherapy, nature therapy, and biophilic design. We further discuss how to leverage these approaches while addressing the need to reduce the stigma surrounding depression. Interviews were conducted with six target users, complemented by a broader questionnaire survey to gain insights from a wider range of stakeholders. Ultimately, we propose design strategies for practitioners that aim to significantly reduce the cost of depression treatment within community mental health service settings. These strategies are intended not only to help those suffering from depression but also to prevent individuals with depressed mood from worsening into depressive disorder. This paper contributes to the design intervention in community treatment of depression.
