This poster introduces an approach that leverages the emotional resonance of scent to foster mental well-being and facilitate deeper connections with personal memories. Drawing from the concept of emotional design, MemoryLane is an innovative app that integrates personalised olfactory profiles to enhance user experience and support mental health through scent-based interventions. Scent has been shown to reduce stress, elevate mood, and evoke memories with remarkable clarity. Additionally, MemoryLane functions as an inter- active olfactory memory journal, allowing users to associate scents with personal milestones—such as the familiar scent of a favorite vacation spot—capturing these moments for later recall. Through the seamless connection with a smart scent diffuser or wearable emitter, MemoryLane allows users to experience scents that are triggered by specific emotions or as a preserved scent log. This app and device combination helps users connect more deeply with their emotions, offering archived scents that can alleviate anxiety, promote relaxation and improve cognition. The proposal will discuss the integration of digital scent technology and its potential to create an artificial olfactory memory system. Drawing on recent advancements in conductive metal-organic frameworks, this technology enables both sensing and memory capabilities, allowing for the storage and retrieval of olfactory stimuli. The mechanics of scent archiving will be examined, exploring how various scents can be effectively encoded and retrieved based on user-defined emotional contexts.
