Research Directions: A Novel Approach for Driving Research Collaboration by Design
摘要
Research is driven by questions, and addressing complex challenges requires interdisciplinary collaboration. Research Directions (RD) is an innovative open-access journal platform designed to foster such collaboration by focusing on high-impact, real-world questions. RD operates on four core principles: real-world questions, interdisciplinary collaboration, visualizing connections, and open access. The platform integrates an Interactive Network Map to visualize research outputs, from early-stage findings to peer-reviewed publications, enhancing discovery and collaboration. Developed through a user-centred approach, RD’s design followed three phases: Discovery, UX Design, and Post-launch, ensuring the platform met user needs and provided an intuitive experience. Key outcomes include facilitating targeted searches by question, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and improving accessibility through design refinements. Moving forward, RD will continue to evolve based on user feedback, further optimizing its features to enhance research collaboration and discovery. By breaking down barriers, RD empowers researchers to tackle global challenges, demonstrating that the right questions have the potential to change the world.
