This chapter provides an overview of the psychopedagogical and criminological aspects of addictions in Poland. It discusses the historical prevalence of alcohol consumption, the emergence of drug addiction, and the rise of behavioural addictions in the country. The chapter examines the reporting of psychoactive substance use and trends among the general population and school-aged youth. It delves into the theories that explain the causes of addiction, including needs-based, biological, family environment, and systemic perspectives. The relationship between risky behaviours, such as substance abuse and criminal activities, and factors like parental neglect and poor self-esteem are explored. The chapter also examines the complex interplay between addiction and crime, highlighting the various types of drug-related offences. The chapter emphasises the multifaceted nature of addiction and the need for a comprehensive approach to prevention, intervention, and treatment in Poland.
