Mathematically-speaking, a tensor is a real-valued function of some number of vectors and some number of covectors (a.k.a. linear forms) that is linear in each of its arguments. On the other hand, tensors are most useful in connection with concrete physical applications. In this chapter, we borrow notions and computations from Physics and Calculus to discuss important classical tensors.
