Cybernetics, AI, and the Mechanization of Human Thought
摘要
The human displacement of the gods is the meta-myth of modernity. From the Promethean use of technical knowledge to control nature, to the death of God that Nietzsche depicted as murder, to posthuman plans to radically alter evolution, the postindustrial world has come to assume a godlike role in Creation. Some emphasize the freedom and creative possibilities inherent in this turn. Others, including the present writer, seek to address the existential disorientation and psychosocial symptoms of this turn’s manifestations. Irrespective of which aspects of this monumental transition we attend, we can no longer deny that godlikeness comes with a godlike responsibility—a responsibility that begins by reflecting on the ideas and values that are driving us.
