Integration of Renewable Energy Source into Chemical Production

Renewable energy sources are paving ways for sustainable chemical manufacturing, such as solar energy facilitates H2 preparation, CO₂ reduction, and chemical synthesis, while wind energy aids in methanol production and hybrid methods promote biomethane and acetic acid generation. Nonetheless, obstacles persist in enhancing the integration of renewable energy sources while ensuring cost efficiency. Intermittent challenges necessitate intelligent grids, energy storage solutions, and demand-response mechanisms. Exorbitant expenses, catalyst degradation hinder large scale adoption. Ongoing technology progress, decrease in cost, and legislative support are essential for the integration of renewable energy sources in chemical manufacturing sector. This chapter discusses the synthesis of green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and acetic acid by the incorporation of solar, wind, and geothermal energy in their production method. It also highlights the technical challenges during the process of chemical production using renewable energy.
