Effective nutrient management is vital in fisheries and aquaculture systems as it directly impacts fish growth, health, and productivity; minimizes environmental impacts; and maintains health of ecosystem. Proper feed management ensures optimal nutrient utilization in a culture system, maintains proper water quality, and reduces disease outbreaks. Feed costs account for 50–70% of total production expenses. Efficient feed management and optimization of feed conversion ratios (FCR) are very important criteria to be followed in fisheries. By implementing innovative integrated approaches like recycling nutrients through integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA), aquaponics, recirculating aquaculture systems (RASs), and algae-based cultures that mitigate waste and promote healthier ecosystems, it is possible to make fisheries a profitable enterprise. Moreover, cost-effective nutrient recovery technologies, investing nutrient dynamics in different aquatic ecosystems, implementing precise feeding strategies, and assessing policy effectiveness in promoting sustainable aquaculture are the need of the hour for promotion of future fishery enterprise.
