Developmental Biology of the Plant Stem
摘要
This chapter provides a mathematician’s guide to the developmental biology of the plant stem. Plants have flexible but tightly controlled developmental mechanisms for generating new organs in the larger spaces left by previous ones and this generates pattern. Many of the molecular and genetic control processes are quite well understood, particularly in the model organism Arabidopsis. This will allow us, in Chap. 9 , to recognise the basis of a number of different primordium-placement models.
