This chapter offers a broad overview of the current research landscape where artificial intelligence techniques intersect with direct conversion technology, highlighting how AI techniques are being harnessed. AI has great potential to improve image quality, contrast resolution, and diagnostic accuracy and provides better insights into direct conversion technology design and manufacture. Given the rapid pace of development and the breadth of ongoing research, this chapter recognizes its limitations in encapsulating the full spectrum of possibilities at the intersection of AI and direct conversion. We aim to illuminate the path forward for researchers and clinicians in the field by providing a snapshot of current trends, challenges, and potential innovations.
