This approach mitigates the adverse side effects associated with antipsychotic medications, offering a controlled environment where patients can engage with their hallucinations. Despite its potential, current technologies used for avatar creation—such as FaceGen Modeller and FACSGen—lack the sophistication to generate highly personalized and dynamic avatars that accurately reflect the complexity of patients’ experiences. This article explores the limitations of existing tools and proposes integrating advanced technologies, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance therapeutic outcomes. Using a hermeneutic methodology, the study analyzes the semiotic processes involved in avatar creation, from patients’ subjective descriptions to the graphical and auditory representations produced. This lens reveals gaps in current systems’ ability to capture intricate emotional, behavioral, and sensory dimensions of hallucinations. Proposed improvements include AI-driven real-time responses, multisensory feedback via VR, and haptic technologies to create more immersive and responsive therapeutic environments. The article also addresses ethical considerations, emphasizing the importance of rigorous testing to avoid unintended consequences, such as triggering distress in patients. By advancing the design and technological frameworks of Avatar Therapy, the study aims to pave the way for more effective, dynamic, and compassionate treatments for schizophrenia, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes through innovation.
