Seed Priming with Selenium (Bulk and/Nano) in Agriculture: Stress Resilience Prospective
摘要
Seed priming refer as an efficient way for enhance uniform germination, vigorous and increase tolerance against abiotic impacts. Main two types of seed priming: convention or bulk (Priming method using Osmo, halo, hydro and solid matrix conditions, bio conditional priming, chemopriming, priming with hormonal and hardening) and modern priming (nutri priming, magneto priming, nano priming). Selenium seed priming (chemo-priming) typically uses bulk methods utilizing Na₂SeO3 (Sodium selenite) and Na₂SeO4 (Sodium selenite). Se-mediated nano priming can be used with growth-stimulating such as; Copper, Iron oxide, Zinc oxide, Silicon dioxide and Calcium hydroxide Nano particles (Cu NPs, Fe₂O₃ NPs, ZnO NPs, SiO₂ NPs, Ca(OH)2 NPs). Priming of seed with selenium (Se) improve ATP and starch synthesis, regulate water balance, prevent chlorophyll reduction under dry conditions and delay a phase of senescence toward stress resilience. Moreover, it modulates the processes of redox reactions, concentration of ROS (reactive oxidative species level and lipid peroxidation. Another reality is that, selenium priming reduces the toxicity of arsenic by forming an adequate selenium pool around the seed coat, as resulting of transferred to roots and shoots. Reported a significant way that selenium promotes plants to resist stress via controlling ROS levels. This chapter offers a broad perception of Se-assisted seed priming as a cutting-edge approach to enhance plant stress tolerance, linking the gap between conventional priming methods and modern nanotechnology-driven approaches.
