Giving (generosity) so that the other may give (reciprocity): The gift paradigm invites us to apprehend this normativity internal to interhuman relations based on the articulation between two norms: the norms of generosity, on the one hand, and reciprocity, on the other. In this sense, it is not illegitimate to make the gift relationship the model of authentic intersubjectivity and to mobilize it to describe and evaluate different forms of interhuman relations against its yardstick. This chapter expands on this idea by formalizing a compass of interhuman ties in the key of giving. This compass first and foremost highlights and formalizes what the gift gives us to see when it is mobilized as a paradigm in the social sciences to apprehend, in all its complexity and ambivalence, the “delicate essence of the social.”

摘要
