ScotCap was established in 2016 to fully evaluate CCE in Scotland. Could this novel diagnostic test bridge the gap between increasing demand for lower GI tests and NHS Scotland’s capacity to deliver them? Patients were recruited to the original evaluation in 2019, and if they declined, they were treated according to standard care and offered conventional colonoscopy. The 2020 global Covid pandemic halted recruitment and effectively shut down the outpatient gastroenterology service. The ScotCap conclusions were timely, with crucial emphasis on cost savings making for a compelling argument for its widespread adoption. ScotCap brought clinicians, researchers and innovators across the country together laying the foundations for further influential outputs and forming a cornerstone of CCE research. We describe this pioneering and disruptive journey and its legacy.

摘要
