This chapter introduces the basic microscopic quantities of traffic flow: trajectories, vehicle velocity and speed, and the basic macroscopic quantities flow, density and local speed together with the hydrodynamic relation connecting them. Spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal averages (Edie’s definitions) are discussed and an expression for the bias between time and space mean speed (Leutzbach relation) is derived. Under certain conditions, the space mean speed can be estimated by the harmonic time mean speed.

摘要

This chapter introduces the basic microscopic quantities of traffic flow: trajectories, vehicle velocity and speed, and the basic macroscopic quantities flow, density and local speed together with the hydrodynamic relation connecting them. Spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal averages (Edie’s definitions) are discussed and an expression for the bias between time and space mean speed (Leutzbach relation) is derived. Under certain conditions, the space mean speed can be estimated by the harmonic time mean speed.
