Future Directions for Receptor Tyrosine Kinases in Cancer Treatment
摘要
Receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK)-directed signaling is essential for the functioning of cells and regulates important biological processes that, when disrupted, can result to cancerous growth, development, and resistance. RTK research in cancer treatment should delve deeper into signaling networks, their crosstalk with other receptors, and communication with the tumor microenvironment (TME). Incorporation of advanced genomic technologies for molecular profiling, artificial intelligence-based drug development methods, and the combination of RTK inhibitors with other treatment modalities could be applied to circumvent drug resistance. The utilization of biomarker-driven precision medicine strategies to identify patient-specific RTK mutations, along with innovative drug delivery methods to predict and monitor treatment responses, can enhance clinical outcomes while minimizing severe effects. Moreover, to refine treatment regimens and achieve long-term remissions in cancer patients, additional studies concerning the role of RTKs in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cancer stem cells, and TME are crucial. The current chapter addressed advancement in the field of RTK, existing drug resistance concerns, and improving patient outcomes via an integrative investigation of these evolving therapeutic techniques, providing deeper insights into the future direction of RTKs (EGFR, AXL, c-MET, and VEGFR) in cancer treatment paradigms.
