Designing a Greener Future - Publishing Platforms for Open Source Hardware
摘要
In a time change shaken by crises, the currently dominant value creation concepts are being increasingly questioned and the focus is more and more on sustainability, longevity and individuality. Various initiatives are promoting the idea of producing more locally close to the point of need in an attempt to realise a circular economy (see FabCity Initiative). Global collaboration and local manufacturing have become the maxim of these new economic concepts. Under the Open Design paradigm, object-based artifacts are created that are accessible, modifiable and reproducible for everyone. The outcome is known as Open Source Hardware. In the last decade, the number of Open Source Hardware has risen and platforms that bundle many thousands of designs are growing steadily. As a result, product designs are gaining more and more visibility and arousing people’s interest. But where can one find Open Source Hardware and how does the business behind this work? In this study, 48 web-based sources for open source hardware were identified and analysed in order to classify them and identify patterns.
