Recently, human-centered design organization (HCD-Net) has worked to improve the environment for ethical considerations in human-centered design (HCD) activities, particularly in research involving human subjects. In 2021, HCD-Net published the first edition of its ethical guidelines for HCD activities, which were initially written in Japanese to raise awareness within Japan and have now been translated into English for global feedback. The guidelines address ethical considerations in surveys, research, and results, although the section on the results remains vague owing to potential conflicts with business interests that require future reconsideration. Additionally, HCD-Net dissolved its ethical consideration committee and launched a new special interest group that focused on researching and addressing dark patterns from academic and practitioner perspectives.
