Research on Interactive Product Design Strategies for Gamified Hand Rehabilitation Training for Children with Cerebral Palsy

Children with cerebral palsy often experience impairments in hand function and motor skills, which significantly impact their daily activities and learning capabilities. Gamified interactive product platforms have demonstrated significant potential in delivering effective and engaging hand therapy for children with cerebral palsy. This study explores the application of gamification techniques in product design, grounded in the psychological and physiological characteristics of children with cerebral palsy. The research began with a literature review focusing on the characteristics of children with cerebral palsy, hand grasp training postures, and the theoretical foundations of gamification. In the second phase, observational methods were employed to identify challenges and opportunities in the rehabilitation process for these children. Additionally, semi-structured interviews with caregivers and rehabilitation therapists were conducted to gain deeper insights. The third phase involved semi-structured interviews with professional physicians to validate the identified challenges and opportunities. Drawing on the DMS Pyramid Model of Game Elements, the results present a gamification-based design model for interactive rehabilitation products aimed at hand therapy for children with cerebral palsy. The proposed model integrates the characteristics of children with cerebral palsy and proposes 12 design strategies for rehabilitation products. This model seeks to advance innovative approaches to hand training and rehabilitation for these children.
