This study analyzes the cognitive load of university students studying Architecture and Civil Engineering compared to the cognitive load exhibited by students from other fields unrelated to these disciplines while using a 3D modeling software in virtual reality. For this study, the Meta Quest 2 headset was used. A series of tasks were performed in the Arkio software, designed to utilize a variety of gestures and functions available in the software. The tasks were administered to 50 students from the University of Monterrey in Mexico, aged between 18 and 26 years. Based on the results obtained in this research, a T-test revealed that there was no statistically significant difference in the perception of cognitive load between Architecture and Civil Engineering students and students from other fields. However, a more in-depth and large-scale study would be necessary to determine whether the degree program studied by the students has any effect on their perception of cognitive load.
