VR technology has been employed in a variety of content. However, using VR can lead to a symptom known as VR sickness. One of the primary methods to alleviate VR sickness is the tunnel effect, which involves darkening or blurring the peripheral field of view. Although this method alleviates VR sickness, it reduces immersion and narrows the user’s field of view. To address these issues, this study proposes a method by using an improved tunnel effect that moves according to the user’s eye gaze. An experiment was conducted where participants could freely walk through the space using this technique. We evaluated VR sickness based on eye movements, brain waves, and a questionnaire called the Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ). In addition, task completion rates were employed as a measure to examine the influence of the field of view.
