From Consent to Contract – The Realisation of the Intent Economy – A Design Consultation for a Commerce Based Personal Data Ecosystem
摘要
The following study engages mixed methods research as part of a commercial collaboration to develop the initial stages of a conceptual model for what can be described as a commerce focused Human Centred Data Eco System. The product, DataPal, enables a ‘pull’ based advertising and marketing model enabled through user granted access to personal data and broadcast intention, secured by user generated contract and system audit trail. The work draws on prior research across Network Privacy, Surveillance Capitalism, Human Data Interaction, Self Sovereign Identity and the Intent Economy, to realise a network model where the individual is sovereign and in control of their personal data, able to leverage a verifiable identity through mechanisms to address asymmetrical relations, drive efficiency and get work done. The study draws on past endeavours to recognise the inherent challenges found within systems of this kind, with the objective to identify the friction posed by its complexity at the earliest possible juncture. The study is practice led and results in the presentation of elements of a conceptual model, a discussion section identifies challenges at the interface layer and debates emerging standards. Recommendations are made for next steps and further research, and a conclusion addresses directly the research questions posed.
