Supporting Online Group Discussions Using a Statement Words Scoring System
摘要
Companies use group discussions as a tool for creating new value in the development of new businesses, products, and services. Online group discussions have recently been implemented in addition to the face-to-face mode. The online mode overcomes time and space constraints and decreases the cost of knowledge aggregation and exchange. However, challenges persist in online discussions that are not conducted face-to-face in terms of supporting the visualization and activation of discussion. This study aims to elucidate the effects of discussion visualization and score evaluation on the activation of discussion in online discussions that are conducted asynchronously and not face-to-face. Experiments were conducted using two systems, namely, a graphical display system with and without score evaluation. The results implied that the graph display method is an effective visualization method that supports comprehensive discussions. Moreover, the discussion score evaluation encourages the activation of discussion by enabling participants to recognize their contribution to the group.
