Considerations for Activity Based Working Before and After Covid-19
摘要
In Japan, efforts to reform work styles had been underway even before the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the pandemic necessitated significant changes to the way people work. The crisis served as a major opportunity to reevaluate work styles, prompting various initiatives, including efforts to better understand the current state of work. Among these initiatives, there has been a movement to reassess office environments and return to pre-pandemic practices following the reclassification of COVID-19 as a Category 5 infectious disease in May 2023. This study examined the changes in work styles before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and after the transition to Category 5, with a particular focus on exploring the potential of Activity Based Working (ABW) as a work style. The survey results revealed that while some work styles that underwent changes during the COVID-19 pandemic have remained in place, approximately 30% have reverted to pre-pandemic conditions.
