A Numerical Study on the Effect of Varying the Pump Blade Outlet Angle on Sludge Pump Performance

Sludge sedimentation in pangasius catfish is an obstacle to the economic development of Vietnamese pangasius farmers. Sludge is formed from the decomposition of excess food, waste, and algae, releasing harmful gases like H2S, NH3, and NO2, which lower oxygen concentrations and harm catfish growth. The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of the outlet angle of the pump blade on the performance of the sludge pump. The study employs computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methodology to delve into the fluid dynamics of sludge pumps with specific outlet angles of 40, 50, 60, and 70°. These pumps are designed to run at 2200 (rpm), utilizing the k-e turbulence model, Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equation, and Lagrangian model for two-phase flow as the fundamental analytical framework.
